Calls to extend first home grant

March 6, 2009

As June 30 grows closer there are becoming increasing calls to extend the first home owners grant boost to beyond the cut off date of 30th June 2009. From the time the government announced the increase to the first home owners grant in October 2008, there has been a strong increase of first home buyers getting into the real estate market.

Industry leaders have noticed a huge influx of of first home buyers into the market since the boost was announced.

The MFAA has written to the government this week calling for the first home owners grant boost to be extended past the 30th June 2009 deadline, as there has been a continual flow of data to support the notion that the boost has had a massive impact on the residential property market.

Figures released have shown another increase in December for owner occupied home loan approvals.
